Computer Update!

For the uninformed, my computer has been out of commission for over a week now. Some virus ravaged my hard drive and I've been awaiting a 'System Restore' disc in the mail so I can re-boot. I called up again yesterday inquiring as to why it's taken so long-- apparently, they're out of 'System Restore' discs and are awaiting a new shipment, but they assured me they'll send it out as soon as they arrive. Fucking great. So yeah, my apologies... still no blog until further notice, whenever said disc arrives.

In the meantime I'll just post movies I've seen and their respective ratings--actual descriptions will be held until further notice:

"Accepted" -- B-
"Reign O'er Me" -- A
"The Night Listener" -- B
"Barnyard" -- C
"Talladega Nights" -- A-
"World Trade Center" -- C+
"Hollywoodland" -- B+
"The Descent" -- B
"Conversations with Other Women" -- B
"Half Nelson"-- B+
"Borat" -- A
"The Illusionist" -- B

Wes Anderson in India

It was announced today that Wes Anderson's next project will be "The Darjeeling Limited," starring Owen Wilson as one of three brothers who travel to India (that's all that's known at the moment). The other brothers are rumored to be played by Jason Schwartzman and Adrien Brody.

For Wes fans like myself, this is music to the ears, as I've adored his last 3 movies ("Rushmore," "The Royal Tenenbaums" and to a lesser extent, "The Life Aquatic"), and an oddball opus from Anderson is always, at the very least, worth watching.

I've managed to obtain a copy of the "Darjeeling" script, written by Anderson, Schwartzman and Roman Coppola, and I plan to read it before the week is out. I'll make sure I let y'all know what I think. A good weekend to all-- talk to you when my computer's fixed.

Fucking frustration.

My laptop broke today. I'm now using my parents' computer in their room. I just typed up reviews of "Borat," "Accepted" and "World Trade Center", 2 editorials and one posting and they all got erased when my fucking modem kicked me off the internet. So no postings for now. I likely won't have my laptop fixed until Monday or Tuesday so it's hard to say if there'll be any postings till then. I'm just going to retype the last posting and then go to bed. Very bad day, my apologies.

What I've been up to...

I'm sorry I've been so severely slacking off in terms of new postings. This entire weekend I was at the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre on 26th street... finally got back Sunday night and the majority of yesterday I was prepping for starting up the newspaper again in the Fall. Today I was out of the house all day with a dentist appointment and then saw three movies: "John Tucker Must Die," "The Ant Bully" and a test screening of "Borat." Here's extremely brief thoughts on all three-- I don't think anyone cares about expanded reactions for the first two but I'll try to post a review of "Borat" by tomorrow night:

--"John Tucker Must Die" Not a good movie, but not nearly as excruciating as I was expected. It' s a second-rate 'Mean Girls' and I never thought anything was especially funny or clever, but I was never in pain and it's passable, relatively harmless entertainment.

--"The Ant Bully" What I saw of this animated kidpic was quite bad, but honestly, I slept through most of it. That said, I was none too impressed. Even the strong voice cast (Nicolas Cage, Julia Roberts, Paul Giamatti, Meryl Streep) made little-to-no-impression-- Cage was the only one who actually did something interesting. And the majority of what I saw had an emphasis on the derivative and/or gross. Your kids deserve better than this; they deserve "Monster House."

--"Borat" One of the funniest movies ever made. My review should be up within 24 hours.

I have 2 more screenings before the week is out but I can't delve into which they are at the moment... On top of those I hope to see "Talladega Nights" before the week is out. More for yas later.
